The Gospel According to Ellie

This Sunday I learned some solid theology from Ellie in the car on the way to and from church.  First, on the way to church.  Ellie talks about death a lot.  Ever since Callie died, which was over a year ago, she has focused on it.  She mentions it frequently and asks a lot of questions.   A lot of the same questions.  I think it's just such a strange, abstract thing that her little brain can't figure out, so she goes over and over it trying to make sense of it in her head.  Anyway, this Sunday she brought it up again.  The conversation went back and forth a bit, but the gist of her side was, "Everybody dies.  Callie died.  Papa died, but he's alive in heaven because he believed in Jesus.  He punched the people that don't believe in Jesus."  "Wait, who punched people that don't believe in Jesus?" (I was thinking she meant Papa, and I was really confused).  "God punched them."  After a few seconds, I figured it out.  "Ellie, sweetie, I think you mean God PUNISHES them...not PUNCHES them."  Yep, that's it.
Then, on the way home from church I asked what they talked about in their classes.  Ellie told me she learned that, "Saul was mean to people that loved Jesus.  He put them in jail.  Then there was a flash of light, and Saul was blonde."  Well, maybe.  I guess we'll never know, but I'm pretty sure she meant he was blind.  She keeps me on my toes.
