We hear all sorts of crazy things around here. It's been a while since I posted because somehow our schedule has gotten crazy (I shutter to think of what is to come when all are in school and involved in activities...so I pretend it's not going to happen). I have lots of pictures from apple picking and Clemson homecoming (from John's perspective...be excited about that!). But for now, I'll just fill you in on some funny and sweet things we've heard over the past few weeks.
Ellie has expanded her vocabulary quite a bit and/or we're starting to figure out the intent behind some of those sounds she's making. My favorite: she's been saying "bo ba ba" a lot. I finally figured out that it means "GO BULLFROGS!" I said it to her after she had said it and she smiled so big as if to say, "Finally, you get it!". She's so proud of herself for saying it. She's also added "boo" (what a cow says), a horse's whinney, Go Tigers!, tickle, AH-men, all done (or get down, not sure which, maybe it's both), a pig's snort, apple, please, and thank you. I'm sure there are others, but Go Bullfrogs is my favorite. She repeats everything, so at this point we could probably get her to say whatever we want. This is a dangerous time!
I can't remember if I wrote about this already or not. Our 8th anniversary was a few weeks ago. I was trying to explain it to Eve in her own terms. I told her that 8 years ago that day, I dressed up like a princess and married Daddy, my prince. She looked at me like I was crazy, then laughed like that was the silliest thing I'd ever said. Oh well. On the sweet side, Eve is a pretty tough character typically. She has a nasty voice that she uses when she makes a nasty face. I think she thinks it's funny. At any rate, we're working on being kind. She has a friend that can't walk and uses a wheelchair. They are in the same class at school. Claire came over today, so Eve has been asking about her a lot. She was asking why she can't walk, so I explained that her muscles don't work like they're supposed to. Eve said she would help her walk. We continued to try to talk it through. I tried to explain to her that Claire just wouldn't be able to walk, but we could try to help her in other ways. At every step of the conversation Eve tried to think of how she could help her. She could share her medicine, or she could give her some milk to make her muscles strong. It was so sweet to see that caring, loving side of her come out. She genuinely wanted to help Claire, no matter what it took.
As for John, he's coming up with the funniest things from friends, school, tv, who knows where. Most of what he says funny, though, is situational. A few Fridays ago was the first Friday of Fall. Thursday we were telling him that the next day was the first day of fall. "Do you think the leaves will start changing?" "No, I think they'll wait until the next day." he answered. Saturday morning we were driving to his soccer game and what do you know, we passed the first maple we'd seen really changing color. He's so smart! Seriously, he (well, all three of them) keeps me laughing all the time, but most stories don't translate into writing well.
