Catching up

Lots to catch up on. First, this is the announcement we made and sent out recently. Now we've 3 to keep up with! At least on the blog. A little longer before we have to keep up with all three in real life. We found out September 1, told family while we were in Oregon, and waited for the first ultrasound to tell everyone else. Funny, the first ultrasound the technician was being really quiet, then started asking some questions that made us nervous that something was wrong. Finally she said, "I don't want to scare you, but I think I might be seeing 2". Wow! By the end of the ultrasound she was pretty convinced it was just the umbilical cord, but she scheduled us for another one anyway. Second ultrasound showed just one baby. Short moment of disappointment...LONG sigh of relief. Twins would be a blast...but CRAZY! So after the ultrasound, we told John. I incorporated it into his bedtime story, and after we were done he responded "But you're just pretending." He's told his teacher and talks about it every now and then, so I think he realizes it's real now. I think he's a little excited, but can't really get a feel for it yet.

In other news, John and Eve have really been enjoying each other, playing games together in the back seat and making each other laugh. It's a lot of fun. Still plenty of sibling rivalry, but they do enjoy and love each other and it's really cute.

Eve has all 8 teeth up front. The last 2 that came in were so close for so long, and came in so slowly, it's hard to give an actual date to them. I'd call the last one sometime around October 1. She is really into puzzles now and does fairly well. She's also really trying to talk now, and seems to have added a number of words to her spoken vocabulary, although they're not easily recognizeable. She tries to say car, cracker, belly, bo (which I think she thinks means dog...she calls callie "bo" too), Mama, Daddy. She was saying ball but may have lost that one. Seems like John did the same thing. He'd pick up some words, then lose a few for a while. She really cracks us up when she walks around with her belly poking out so proudly. In fact, she found her belly last week and has been showing it off by pulling up her shirt or dress ever since. Then she pulls it back down and gives a devious smile. Hilarious.

Poor John was sick yesterday morning. He was walking into our room around 7, tripped in the doorway, and just stayed on the ground. I carried him to the bed, where he slept until 10. He got better pretty quickly after that, though. John is doing well in school as far as I can tell, but he's already like a middle school boy. I pick him up and he doesn't want to tell me anything. I ask "What did you learn today?" His response is usually "Anything", which he says to mean nothing. I can't get any friend's names or anything from him. He seems to be happy, though, and when he's playing and pretending I can hear things that he's learning in school. He just doesn't want to talk about it. He even gets a little attitude "I don't want to tell you!" At least it's a good preparation for the teenage years. He really seems to be a good bit taller, finally fitting into 3T pants. He's growing up too fast! Even other people have noticed it. He's really slimmed down a lot, too. Yesterday we picked his halloween costume. Of all the choices, he chooses "the bad Spiderman". As much as I tried to impress him with other costumes, he stuck with it. One thing that's been great about John lately is that he's really wanting to be a helper and he's gotten to be really good at picking up toys. He is a great little helper. He even tried to change Eve's diaper for me yesterday...which made her quite angry.

I have pictures downloaded from the trip. I promise I'll put them up soon.
