I have lots to catch up on, so I'll have to do it in increments.
First, as an addendum to the last post, I just have to say that none of what John is saying is as bad, or as funny, as when he first started saying "chips". I may have already posted this. I know I tried to post the video, but couldn't. At any rate, we have a video of Buck saying chips, John saying what sounds like the "B" word, both of them repeating it louder and louder, and me in tears laughing in the background. Fortunately he's gotten it figured out now. Now for some fun pictures.

THE BIG RACE
A friend had a fun idea to host a big race for the kids. She even managed to get real racing numbers and everything! I'm just a little on the competitive side, so I was really excited about it. Also, John has been racing his bike like crazy lately, so I thought he'd enjoy it. The day before, we practiced one time around the cul-de-sac just to make sure he understood the concept. He was pumped up and ready!
I wanted to dress him in short racing shorts and knee high striped racing socks, but his superhero muscle shirt was the best thing we could muster up last-minute. I told him to put his foot behind the line, squat down like we practiced, and show his racing hands. This is the pose he ended up with. We'll have to keep working on it.
All the kids were excited and running up the hill before the race started.
The grand stand was packed!
All the competitors ready!
Unfortunately for John, it took a while to get the race started, and he sort of lost interest. By the time he was supposed to line up with his group, he said "I don't want to run super fast" in his best whiny voice. The course was probably close to a quarter mile around a little pond. I managed to get him around the course by chasing and being chased, but as hard as it was to get him across the starting line...the finish line was harder.
FINALLY!!! Woo hoo! He even got a white 3rd place ribbon (he made sure of that, since I told him he'd get a ribbon after the race. He doesn't forget ANYTHING).We had a race for the babies afterward. Eve had a good start for one or two steps, then turned perpendicular to the course and headed straight for the water. Maybe next time.
