Let's Clear That Up

The way our church does baptisms is definitely different from how I grew up, and making the change can be a bit strange (for lack of a better word), which is maybe why I was so tickled this past Sunday.  We meet at the Fountain Inn Civic Center, so there's no way to do baptisms inside since we dunk rather than sprinkle.  I don't think it'll ever stop being funny to me that we use a cattle trough.  There's a nicely build wooden case around it, but still, I know it's a cattle trough.  Hey, Jesus was laid in a manger, so I think it's totally appropriate.  Anyway, when the regular service is over, we all run to get our kids, then gather in the courtyard around the cattle trough.  I like that the kids can watch and be a part.  This past Sunday when I went to pick Eve up from her class she asked, "Are we going to see the sacrifice?"  Like I said, it's a bit more than a sprinkle, but still, not quite as "shocking" as a sacrifice.  I thought maybe she had studied something about Old Testament sacrifices in class, but no.  She was just confused.  I'm glad this was less traumatic to watch.  It gave me a good giggle.  Ellie asked, "Are we going to see the bathtism?"  Maybe we should stick with that.
