Each month the school hosts a Writer's Tea to showcase one special writer from each class. In November John and Eve were both invited to the Writer's Tea. We were so proud of them both!
In Eve's class they had just started writing. Her teacher hadn't planned on sending anyone quite yet, but she was so pleased with Eve's writing project. Eve did a great job reading in front of the audience.
John's teacher asked him to type his writing. It took him a while, but he did it all by himself. Last year when he read at the Writer's Tea, he was very nervous and slumped in his seat and mumbled (who could blame him!). This year he sat up and spoke very well.
Eve's writing, "ON the BOt the PewGUMS AT JRi bRed" (backwards "j"). Translation, "On the boat the Pilgrims ate dry bread". For someone who just barely started reading and writing, this was so great! I was surprised to see how much she was able to write.
John's writing, "What do you know about Thanksgiving? The pilgrims came to America on the Mayflower. They served turkey at the first Thanksgiving feast. The Native Americans helped the pilgrims survive. Pilgrims cut down trees to build houses. The harbor was near the houses. The pilgrims had farmed the land. I know a lot about Thanksgiving. Do you?"
In John's class they do a lot of rearranging sentences and filling in the blank, so it's hard to know what he would've written without those parameters, but either way, we are so very proud of them both for what they wrote, and how well they read it for the audience.
