Other People Are Rediculous.

I can remember several times in life I've had an epiphany that maybe other people don't do some of the crazy things we grew up doing in our family.  Things I always assumed everyone did.  For instance, I think it was in high school I realized the game Clue actually had a board (we didn't have one, so always played without it).  I believe it was college when I realized that not everyone put their letters to Santa in the fireplace and burnt them (then cleaned the fireplace so Santa wouldn't get dirty...hmmm how convenient).  Apparently not everyone calls the remote for the TV the "power", and only a few years ago I realized that the leprechauns don't cause mischief at everyone's house on St. Patrick's day.  Other people, of course, are weird for not doing these things.
In the interests of saving some family traditions, we adopted the term "chupa" for a pacifier, a-la-Buckingham.  It's Spanish.  Of course the kids assume that's just the name for it.  They often make up random words by combining random sounds.  A lot of times they're real words, like "booty".  A while ago Eve made up the word "binky".  After hearing them say it as a silly word for a while, I told them it's actually what a lot of people call a chupa.  They laughed hysterically as if that was the most rediculous thing they've ever heard...not knowing that they're WAY in the minority on this one.  It's still a big joke between John and Eve.  Funny how small our little spheres are...and how rediculous other people are.
